ISLAND pile up on their success from 2016 and are set to release a new EP.
It seems that 2016 left a bitter taste in the mouths of quite a lot of people, but it wasn't all bad. Proof is that ISLAND sold out a gig in Oslo two months in advance, they then booked the famous London venue Scala for an 800 capacity gig, which they also sold out, and are now set to headline a show at the Heaven in London on May 3rd. And in order to pick 2017 up where they left off, ISLAND will be releasing their next EP entitled A Place You Like on February 3rd. The band posted the audio track of the eponymous song on their Soundcloud page a couple of months ago.
The quite incredible feat with their sold out shows and success from 2016 is that ISLAND are still an unsigned band. The London quartet is made up of Rollo Doherty on vocals and guitar, James Wolfe on bass, Jack Raeder on guitar and Toby Richards on the drums. Until now, they released the single 'Stargazer' in August 2015 which was followed by the Girl EP in November of the same year and in March 2016 they released the Spotless Mind / Come With Me single. All of their releases have been getting some good airplay whether it be over the radio or even online via streaming platforms. Their fanbase is growing and the band wants to use this momentum and build on it with the release of A Place You Like. 'Dreaming Of' is the latest song of their upcoming EP they posted on Soundcloud.
A Place You Like is a 4 track EP and there is only one track that is not yet available on their Soundcloud account. This really highlights their desire to release their music independently and on their very own terms and maybe explains why they have not yet been seduced by signing with a record label. In any case, if you listen to the tracks they are about to release, they make a case for themselves. A Place You Like is a delicate piece of music which has a great energy to it. The intricate guitar riffs and the sounds the band rely on cleverly complement Doherty's cosmic singing. It's really no surprise they have been supporting some promising emerging acts from the independent music scene such as Palace, The Bohicas or Amber Run. Waves was the first track they released on Soundcloud and is the first track on the record.
A Place You Like can be pre-ordered on the band's Bandcamp and is available as a digital download or in a limited edition on black vinyl. We talked about the Heaven show, but May is still far away and as a matter of fact, ISLAND have already a couple of other shows lined up for you in Nottingham, Digbeth and Bristol during the month of February. Make sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud for any news, new releases and tour dates. They have been getting some really good reviews for their live acts, if the fact they sold out the previous shows they headlined did not impress you, and we recommend you to be on the look-out if they were to play near you.
