The duet has shared a video to announce their upcoming debut album.
Don’t they just look fabulous? I don’t think two male artists have ever gone so deep into musical bromance. Featuring long hair, showers and foil, “Lying Has To Stop” reveals the collaboration between New-Zealand musician, Connan Mockasin, and former Late of the Pier singer, Sam Dust (LA Priest). The pair got together to form Soft Hair and reach a level of screwball aesthetics that we’ve hardly ever seen before. One must acknowledge, however, the two unique musical identities these two brilliant artists have combined to birth this brand new LP.
The album was recorded over the course of the last five years, as a side project to Connan and Sam’s respective solo careers. Connan first met Sam in 2009 when performing as a supporting act for Late of the Pier. Sam Dust then travelled around Asia, Africa and all over Europe while focusing on inventing his own instruments. He resurfaced in 2015 as LA Priest and published his first solo album Inji.
Connan toured around the world after the release of Forever Dolphin Love and Caramel, while working with artists such as James Blake, Charlotte Gainsbourg or Vince Staples. The songs on this new album have been written and recorded in various places with a really new and different approach for both Connan and Sam. The result is a strongly exotic and psychedelic pop rock production, which mixes strange yet seducing sounds with synthpop and mellifluous vocals.
I highly recommend keeping up to date with these two fellows. You can pre-order Soft Hair’s album on bandcamp and follow Connan Mockasin on Facebook for more information on this joint venture. Of course, don’t forget to check out LA Priest and Sam’s former band, Late of the Pier.
