The Falling Season is Masta Ace's latest release and came out on the 13th earlier this month on his M3 Records record label. This is his first solo album since the release of MA Doom – Son of Yvonne in 2012 and has been entirely produced by KIC Beats from California.
Masta Ace is a rapper and record producer from Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY whose career kicked off in 1988 alongside names such as Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane and Craig G. During his career that almost spans over three decades now, he released five solo albums and numerous collaboration albums with his Hip-Hop crews Masta Ace Incorporated and eMC and with the Crooklyn Dodgers a Hip-Hop 'supergroup' including rappers Buckshot and Special Ed. He has featured on tracks and records with artists such as CunninLynguists, Gang Starr, Edo G. or Method Man just to name a few. Masta Ace is a pure New York emcee and a true rap veteran with tremendous storytelling skills who has influenced many of today's rappers.
His previous record being an homage to his late mother and his days as a child, The Falling Season is a 24 track long concept album, following in the footsteps of his previous releases, through which the artist takes us back to his high school years and tells the story of all the struggles that came with them. From his daily hour and a half bus ride to get to school to an unfamiliar neighborhood, to the football team tryouts and his first steps as an emcee, he tells stories about high school survival and the encounters with a variety of characters eventually making it to his high school graduation. The album is not heavily sample based although it can sometimes feel like it which can be explained by KIC Beats' jazz background. The album features artists such as Chuck D from public Enemy, AG of D.I.T.C., Wordsworth and Stricklin from eMC, Cormega and Torae. The cover artwork for the album has been made by Masta Ace's friend and graffiti artist Temper who is based in Birmingham.
