Two tracks that should help you through the winter.
After their first full length record Eat Yuppies and Dance dropped in 2015, Oh! Gunquit are back with a 7 inch entitled Nomads of the Lost which was released on November 14th earlier this month on Trash Wax Records. In all fairness, it isn't their first release of 2016, but the previous one was a cassette only US release of an EP entitled Hot Cross Fun on Burger Records in August. Here is the video for the song 'Nomads of the Lost'.
Oh! Gunquit are a five piece band based in London founded in 2010 by Tina Swasey, the lead singer and trumpet player, and Simon Wild, the guitarist and backup vocalist. They are joined by Kieran Ridgers on the saxophone, Veronica Arcila on bass and Alex De Renzi on drums. When the band was founded, their idea was to create a new and vibrant blend of primitive surf, garage-punk, exotica and rock'n'roll. They now seem to have fallen into the rumble-bop category, but they have always kept the spirit they were aiming for by brewing the only-known-to-them mix of raw garage-rock and freak-a-billy.
Nomads of the Lost may only be a two-track 7 inch, but it is a splendid burst of vintage rockabilly vibes mixed with brassy sounds and lively choruses. If these two tracks won't warm your heart, it might get you to move your body. One way or another, these tracks should keep you from getting cold during the upcoming winter. The audio for the b-side entitled 'Walking Streets' is also available on Youtube.
