I’m more of an oldschool kind of guy and I very often struggle to find something I like with newer artists. Lately however, I have been digging and listening to a lot of more recent material. And although I have to confess that there were a lot of things that I really struggled to enjoy, I managed to put these 12 songs that I really grew fond of together for the mixtape.

As the title of the mixtape indicates, the song that has been recorded the earliest on it is from 2010. Now I know, that some of the songs are still very oldschool oriented and DOOM and Ghostface aren’t really from the newer generation of artists, but I thought one wouldn’t necessarily notice the gap there and all in all the songs fit really well together. I hope you’ll enjoy listening to these tracks as much as I do!

01. L’Orange & Jeremiah Jae - All I Need (feat. Gift Of Gab)

02. Chance The Rapper - Nana (feat. Action Bronson)

03. Westside Gunn - Mr. T

04. Statik Selektah - Carry On (feat. Joey Bada$$ & Freddie Gibbs)

05. Little Simz - Gratitude (feat. The Hics)

06. Odd Future - Orange Juice

09. Vince Staples - Nate (feat. James Fauntleroy)

10. Ab-Soul - Turn Me Up (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

These are the tracks I have been listening to during my holidays. From the moment I took the plane till I came back home. Those songs really got me in a nostalgic mood, longing to see my homeland again.

Those are also friends and artists I have worked with in the past couple of years.

This mix is made to sit down and enjoy a Frappuccino with (I f***ing hate Starbucks)..

Play this at a BBQ or do whatever you want to do.

Peace.

There is really no common thread in this mixtape other than the fact that most of the songs are moderately slow… It’s really more of an eclectic collection of tunes I listen to lately while enjoying the late summer sunlight. So let the smoothness of this mixtape carry you on a soft cotton cloud and revel in pure chillness (that’s a word… right?).

Everybody complains that everything was better back in the days. I can’t totally agree. Obviously you have all the classics that cannot be overlooked, but in all fairness there are still people doing some really good hip-hop nowadays. You just have to find them and that is the tricky part and that is sort of where Colombe Music tries to step in and make things easier for you.

With this mixtape, I tried to bring you some older and some newer songs from bands you may or may not know. And maybe if you know the bands, the songs I picked are not the ones you are most familiar with. Either way, the songs have been recorded over the timespan from 1992 to 2016, but they all have the same groove and spirit. I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I do!

01. The Pharcyde - Passing Me By

02. Slum Village - Keep It On (This Beat)

03. Pete Rock & CL Smooth - The Basement

04. Strong Arm Steady - Questions (feat. Planet Asia & Fashawn)

05. CunninLynguists - Seasons (feat. Masta Ace)

Are you the kind of person that only listens to music to feel energetic and pumped up? In that case I suggest you leave this page faster than Tiësto can say ’Avicii’, because this music will definitely not be for you. This is a mixtape for the people that want a soundtrack to stay in bed to on Sunday mornings, that love to just kick back on the couch with a couple of beers (if that’s your poison of choice) or for everyone out there who just want a smooth playlist to take them to serenity after a hard day at work.

In terms of the music, they are all favorites of mine in their own right, be it a golden oldie or a newer acquaintance. The genres are heavily mixed, ranging from sun-drenched tropicalia such as Azimüth to alt-pop by the likes of Connan Mockasin, with the odd 80’s pop guilty pleasure making its way in there (yes Michael McDonald, I’m talking to you). Some songs are instrumental, some are not. There are a couple of songs that have a very positive vibe to them, others are rather introspective. One thing is for sure though, they will all bring 100 per cent smoothness to your day no matter how you are spending it.

1.     Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti - Baby

2.     Azimüth - A Manhã

3.     The Arcs - Young

4.     Mac DeMarco - Chamber Of Reflection

5.     Michael McDonald - I Keep Forgetting (Every Time You’re Near)

6.     William DeVaughn - Be Thankful For What You’ve Got (Pt. 1 & Pt. 2)

7.     Evinha - Esperar Pra Ver

8.     Connan Mockasin - Caramel

9.     Devendra Banhart - Middle Names

10.   El Michels Affair - Hung Up On My Baby

11.   Archy Marshall - Swell

I was high when I listened to most of these songs. I go for a walk and listen to music. Most of the days it rains, but then I just put my rain jacket on. I find myself stopping, standing still staring at the grey horizon. The grey wall sets upon the shore. There is no distance here. Just me. I like to have moments just for myself. I do this everyday - I try to. I find hope in these stories, and I hope you enjoy the collection of these hopeful stories.

1.    Papooz - Ann Wants to Dance

2.    Infinite Bisous - The Past Tense

3.    Son Lux - Alternate World

4.    Sin Fang - Candyland feat Jonsi

For most of you, holidays have already started or are just around the corner. The lucky ones will be traveling to faraway and completely new places while others will not have the opportunity to get away from their daily routine for whatever reason. This is what motivated me to put today’s mixtape together. It is a compilation of some of my favorite 70s African Psych Rock tracks. It will take you to Nigeria, Zambia, Benin and Togo. I thought it would be a good opportunity for some of you to travel a bit and if it is only for the duration of the bus or train ride to work and for the others to discover new music while exploring new cultures and people. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

1. SJOB Movement - You Only Live Once

2. Tirogo - Float

3. Witch - Lazy Bones

4. Ngozi Family - Everything Is Over

5. The Peace - I don’t know

6. Ofege - Whizzy Ilabo

 7. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou - Sê Tché Wê Djo Mon

 11. Amanaz - Making the Scene
